US Representative Anthony Weiner has admitted to having a number of inappropriate relationships with women over the internet, saying he was deeply ashamed but would not resign. He said he had intended to send the close-up picture of himself in his underpants as a direct message on Twitter.
ABC News EXCLUSIVELY reported that 46-years old Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner (WEE’-nur) has sexted six women over the last three years, some of his Internet relationships began to reveal themselves.
On June 6, 2011, Weiner held a press conference at which he said he had lied about the pictures. Congressman Weiner sensationally admitted he had exchanged a series of photos and messages of an explicit nature with at least six women. The second-ranking House Democrat, Maryland’s Steny Hoyer, called for Weiner to make full disclosure.
He then said he had had exchanges with women he met online both before and after he married Huma Abedin, a top aide to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, last year. “If you’re looking for some kind of deep explanation, I simply don’t have one,” Weiner said at a press conference Monday afternoon. “This was just me doing a dumb thing, doing it repeatedly and then lying about it.”
“I have made terrible mistakes. I have hurt the people I care about the most and I am deeply sorry,” Weiner said.
Congressman Weiner said he had meant to send the photo as a direct message to the female college student and “panicked” when he realized he had instead sent it out to all of his Twitter followers.
